It was an emergency between two slices of bread for a Connecticut man who just wanted a sandwich to his exact specifications.
Rother McLennon said he "specifically asked for little turkey and little ham, a lot of cheese and a lot of mayonnaise" at the Grateful Deli in East Hartford, Connecticut — Or at least that's what he told the operator when he dialed 911 after the deli got the order wrong.
To clarify that this phone call from McLennon was actually taking place, the dispatcher asked, "You're calling 911 because you don't like way that they're making your sandwich?"
"Exactly," McLennon said, according to NBC Connecticut.
The dispatcher advised McLennon not to buy the sandwich, but it seemed his concerns went further than just that particular order.
"I mean, I just want to solve this the right way. Her sister made it, but she left," McLennon (in all seriousness) explained. "They are playing games with me, so I was just wondering if you could come by... I just want it resolved and I want to be able to come back here and get the regular sandwich that I ask for."
Is that so much to ask?
Again, the dispatcher, remaining patient, told McLennon to not buy the sandwich in the future.
Not satisfied with that strategy, McLennon said, "I’ll look at it before I buy it,” he said."
The deli's owner said McLennon ordered 14 sandwiches and employees made them to his specifications, but then he didn't want to pay for them. Instead, he used the deli's phone to call 911.
After the incident, McLennon called the deli to apologize and reassure them that he would be coming back for more sandwiches in the future, which we are sure they were thrilled to hear.
