The Word: Being Stephenie Meyer must be nice

Man-oh-man, Stephenie Meyer must have so much money.

Man-oh-man, Stephenie Meyer must have so much money. Her net worth is already more than the GDP of most countries (around $134.2 million at last count) thanks to the “Twilight” saga. But let’s not forget the girl has written other books as well, such as the best-selling novel “The Host.” With the “Twilight” films coming to a close, “The Host” is going to made into a movie, with “Hanna” star Saoirse Ronan set to be the lead. Deadline Hollywood announced it will be one of the hot titles for sale at Cannes Film Festival next week.

Ronan will play Melanie Stryder, one of the last humans fighting an alien species. But lest you’re worried there is no Edward-esque love interest, there is — a fellow resistor named Jared, with whom Stryder is in love. This sounds great, but I have a few small suggestions: Make sure Stryder is a virgin, Jared a hunky, pale vampire and throw in a werewolf for good measure. I smell a blockbuster!

MTV movie awards

Speaking of those omnipresent vampires, they should really just rename the “MTV Movie Awards” “The Night We Celebrate All That Is ‘Twilight.’” In non-surprising news, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” was nominated for eight MTV movie awards, including best picture.

It’s up against “Black Swan,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” “Inception” and “The Social Network.” This is nothing new — “Twilight” won in 2009 and “New Moon” in 2010. But maybe this year crazy, leotard-clad lesbians will trump moody, mythological teenagers?
