The Word: Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus vie for last ‘X Factor’ seat

With Britney Spears reportedly set to fill one of the empty judges’ panel seats on “The X Factor,” it’s a starlet face-off for the final slot, since former judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger were kicked off the show after its first season. And according to conflicting reports, it looks like it’s down to two former Disney stars.

Celebuzz.com reports that executive Simon Cowell has been considering Miley Cyrus for the spot, while The Hollywood Reporter insists that Demi Lovato is close to a deal — and even in the “final negotiations” of securing the job.

I know this sounds, well, crazy, but if the job is to decide who has authentic talent on a national television show, shouldn’t it be filled by someone who actually writes her own music and isn’t auto-tuned within an inch of her life?

Readers respond to the name ‘Maxwell Drew’

Yesterday, I asked what you thought of Jessica Simpson naming her daughter Maxwell Drew, and the reader consensus is that it’s too masculine. Here’s a smidgen of your thoughts:

“Sorry, reminds of the pig in the Geico commercials (his name is Maxwell also) and Drew Carey. Way too masculine for a little girl.” – Lourdes

“I love the name Maxwell Drew! I mean, if it were for a boy. I like the idea of naming girls with boy names like Kyle and Ryan, but Maxwell is a too manly name in my opinion. I hope she goes by Drew when she gets older.” – Libna

“Maxwell Drew is not a name for a girl. Maxine would have been better.” – Lynne

“It’s a dreadful name for a girl. It’s as bad as Harper Seven, Blue Ivy Carter, Apple, etc. I guess I’m a traditionalist!” – Sylvia

“What do I think of the name Maxwell Drew? Well, I am old (52) so two things come to my mind: Coffee and Drew Barrymore!” – Gracie
