The Internet has been abuzz with the rumor that a big star was going to come out on the cover of People. So just who is that big star? Country music artist Chely Wright, who had a No. 1 hit in 1999.
“There had never, ever been a country music artist who had acknowledged his or her homosexuality,” she tells People.com. “Nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out.”
What “magical” timing, as you know what else is “coming out” today? Her new album as well as her new memoir.
Of course Wright should be commended, as coming out is never easy, but why do it 11 years from the peak of your fame? When, say, Neil Patrick Harris came out, it was because he was gay, not because he had something to sell in addition to being not-straight.
