Swings, a slide and monkey bars are pretty standard for a city park, but what would a playground look like if it were designed by kids? KaBOOM!, a nonprofit that creates play spaces throughout the country, wanted to hear children's pie-in-the-sky playground ideas, and the kids' answers will inspire you. From a super-size slide that can fit a whole group of friends to a graffiti wall, the ideas were as imaginative and creative as only kids can be.
Kaboom!, in partnership with the Mattel Children's Foundation, asked kids to use crafts to show what their ideal playground would look like, and one of the recurring themes was obstacle courses; almost every playground the kids dreamed up had one. When KaBOOM! builds playgrounds, it makes sure to encourage three things: physical activity to provide exercise and build strength; creative challenges to build cognitive skills; and social activities to foster relationships and build interpersonal skills. What it learned from the focus group was that kids want these things anyway.

Here, see a few of the cool playgrounds the kids came up with.
This one was made by 6- and 7-year-old boys and includes an extensive obstacle course with water traps and even a go-kart track:
Girls ages 8 and 9 created this playground with a graffiti wall, a nail art area and even a cafe where kids can make custom grilled cheese sandwiches:
KaBOOM! is currently holding a competition looking to find America's Most Playful Family, asking families to share the creative ways they play together. Click here to read up on the semifinalists.
