Lifetime set to premiere ‘Surviving Compton’ Saturday despite Dr. Dre’s threat to sue

On Saturday, Lifetime is set to premiere “Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel’le, another one of the network’s original movies that has caused legal controversy before it even airs.

Based on the life story of Michel’le — a hip-hop artist who frequently collaborated with members of NWA in the late 1980s and early 1990s — it offers a different perspective about the story of the rap group.

The movie focuses on the story of Michel’le and her experiences and association with the group and also the personal relationship she had with Dr. Dre.

In the film “Straight Outta Compton,” the story glanced over Michel’le’s story and focused more on the rise and success of N.W.A.

According to TMZ, Dr. Dre is threatening to sue Sony Pictures if they release “Surviving Compton.” The film depicts Dr. Dre’s character as extremely violent, but Dr. Dre has denied that type of behavior toward Michel’le.

“Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel’le” premieres Saturday, Oct. 15, at 8 p.m.
