NEWARK. Customs and Border Protections officers seized 261,000 cigarette lighters at the Port of New York in Newark on June 13, they reported yesterday. Officials said they took the lighters — worth $135,000 — because they were missing a child-resistant mechanism.
Customs officers were working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to block what they called a “high-risk shipment.”
The lighters arrived from France.
