The LIRR announced that customers should expect an evening of delays and possible cancellations after a derailed maintenance car near Woodside led to a messy Monday morning rush hour.
Now, the Long Island Rail Road has advised riders that their Monday evening commute could be equally as plagued by problems in an advisory released on Monday afternoon.
RELATED:MTA shows off progress on LIRR extension to Grand Central The derailed maintenance car was removed from the track at approximately 9:45 a.m., after morning commuters were diverted to Atlantic Terminal and Hunterspoint Avenue in an effort to avoid the broken train, CBS2 reported. Even though that train was cleared, the LIRR has still warned of evening rush hour problems.

“Repairs are ongoing but may not be fully completed before the evening rush,” according to the afternoon advisory from the LIRR, which added that further updates would be available as the peak evening rush hour gets closer. The maintenance locomotive derailed around 11 p.m. on Sunday in an incident that resulted in no injuries, officials said to theNew York Post. Five of the LIRR’s 11 branches were affected.
