Little Mosque actor enjoys perks of the city car

Name: Brandon Firla

What’s he famous for: The Canadian actor and comedian has starred in the hit legal sitcom Billable Hours, and currently plays Reverend Thorne on Little Mosque on the Prairie. He’ll also be hosting the Best of the Fest Encore Show at Second City as part of the Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival this Friday.

His car: A black two-door 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit.

Why the Rabbit? Well, first of all, my favourite animal is the rabbit. And, I like a good city car, which the Rabbit is. Unfortunately, it’s an automatic. Not my choice. My wife didn’t want a standard. So, you know, gotta let the lady…

Have you taken any road trips? We’ve actually driven it across the country three times, from Toronto to L.A. We’ve logged a lot of miles on it. Actually in Texas, we almost lost our passenger side door on one trip. We entered a sand/snowstorm and we stopped at this gas station to get water and opened the passenger door, and it opened the complete opposite way from the sheer force of the wind. So now it doesn’t quite close. It wasn’t pretty.

What kind of driver are you? I guess I go between relaxed and aggressive. Now, as an expectant father, I’ve scaled back. Now I drive pretty much like an 80-year-old man. I’m definitely a little more cautious now than I used to be.

Dream car: I want one of each car, like Jay Leno. No, I’ve always had a passion for Volvos. Those are the cars that I grew up with and learned how to drive. I would go classic, old school Volvo station wagon. A battle tank station wagon.
