Living like the Kennedys

How much is a piece of history worth? A magnificent, oceanfront property located in the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port, but not a property owned by any of the Kennedys, recently came on the market for $13.5 million.

This seven-bedroom, shingle-style mansion was built by the Coleman family in 1928, and the family has owned it since. It is located on a picturesque piece of land next to the late Ted Kennedy’s home. The Coleman kids grew up with John, Teddy, Robert and Eunice and frolicked on the same sandy beach overlooking the Nantucket sound. Only a handful of families have homes on the Kennedy compound, making this a once-in-a-lifetime chance for a Camelot-obsessed buyer.

“These legacy-type properties rarely come on the market,” says Bob Kinlan, of Robert Paul Properties, which is selling the home for the Coleman family. “To have a home in this particular area of Hyannis Port is so rare. There is a lot of history that surrounds it, whether you’re a fan or not of the Kennedy family.”

The home is in its original condition. It’s more than 4,000 square feet, with 13 rooms and 5.5 bathrooms. There is a caretaker’s residence attached to the three-car garage, and three terraces on the ocean.
