14,000 MBTA customers voted to help pick new Purple Line train design

The selection was limited as far as the color scheme, but that didn’t stop 14,000 MBTA customers from voting for their favorite locomotive design in a recent poll setup by the T.

According to MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo, 50 percent of customers voted for the same design for the transit agencies anticipated Commuter Rail trains.

All three designs feature the classic purple color known to commuters, but each look varied.

Customers went online and voted on the T website for their favorite Purple Line look during a two-week survey offered by the T.

The MBTA is waiting for the 20 new locomotives to arrive, a $114 million investment that is the first of its kind in over 20 years for the transit authority.

The new fleet of purple-colored diesel-electric passenger trains will operate more efficiently, reduce fuel costs and emissions and improve reliability, according to a spokesperson from the MBTA.
