An elderly assault victim succumbed to his injuries from a beating he sustained on Friday in Manhattan, police said on Sunday.
Investigators identified the victims as Ruan Wen Hui, 68. Hui was rescued on Friday after an attack on the street, only around the corner from his East Village home.
Authorities said that Hui was walking on the block when an unknown black male approached him at around 8:43 p.m. on Friday. The suspect came up to Hui before starting to yell at him. He than grabbed Hui and pushed him against the wall.
Hui fell to the ground when the assailant began to punch and kick the elderly victim before leaving the scene on foot.
The encounter and beating occurred within less than thirty seconds. Local blog EV Grieve obtained video of the attack.
Hui was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition but passed away on Saturday, police said.
NYPD is asking anyone with information on the suspect and deadly incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS or to submit tips online.
