After Irene: One arrest, one death in Bay State so far

So far one arrest and one death have been reported in Massachusetts following Tropical Storm Irene over the weekend.

In Hull, police reported that Daniel Jacques, 23, of Quincy, was charged with disorderly conduct after he allegedly fled from police when they found him swimming at Nantasket Beach.

According to police reports, two State Troopers went down to the water line and began waving Jacques
out of the water.

Jacques allegedly began to come in, but when he
reached shallow enough water to be able to walk, he began to walk away
from the troopers.

According to police, Jacques ran along the beach, and then ran across Hull Shore Drive
in attempt to evade the troopers. He nearly caused several motor vehicle
crashes as cars had to take evasive action to avoid hitting him.

Jacques is scheduled to be arraigned in Hingham District Court today for those charges.

The Boston Globe reports that Tropical Storm Irene claimed its first fatality in Massachusetts this morning when a public works employee in Southbridge was electrocuted by a downed power line.

The employee was apparently heading to work to aid storm recovery when he was killed.
