A man who allegedly robbed a Haverhill bank over the weekend was arrested in part because he parked his getaway car behind the city’s police department.

Haverhill police said the TD Bank on Merrimack Street was robbed Saturday just before noon.

In a statement, police said a white man, between 40 and 50 years old, entered the bank, passed a note to the tellers and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police were able to track the man, Louis Colon, 47, who is homeless, by using surveillance cameras located around the city, according to WBZ. Police watched him walk from the car into the bank before the robbery. The cameras then allegedly caught him returning to the car.

Detectives set up surveillance and arrested Colon when he tried to get into the car on Sunday.
