Attempted bank robbery suspect wanted for multiple cases

A man attempted to rob a Chestnut Hill bank earlier today, and authorities believe he may have struck in the past.

The suspect entered a Sovereign Bank branch at 8623 Germantown Avenue at about 10:10 a.m. and presented a threatening demand note to the teller, but fled without any cash, authorities said.

The same man is believed to be responsible for the Jan. 30 robbery of a National Penn Bank at 9 W. Evergreen Avenue, also in Chestnut Hill, and the Jan. 6 robbery of a Contestoga Bank in Glenside, Pa.

The Philadelphia Police Department and the FBI are asking for the public’s help in finding the suspect, who is described as a 5-feet-7-inch black man, about 30 years old, with a slim build, dark complexion, goatee and mustache. He was wearing a gray hoodie, dark sunglasses and black gloves.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Philadelphia Police or the FBI at 215-418-4000. There may be a reward for information leading his capture.
