New York Attorney General Eric Scheiderman has rejected a request from civil liberties groups to investigate the NYPD’s controversial counter-terrorism efforts.

Dozens of civil liberties groups requested an investigation of the NYPD at the beginning of February, when the AP first published its report of the extent of their spying efforts.

“While we share some of the serious concerns raised in the letter, there are significant legal and investigative obstacles that impede our ability to launch a review of this matter at this time,” Schneiderman’s spokesperson told the AP on Friday.
