An attorney for accused Amy Lord killer Edwin Alemany said the 28-year-old suspect tried to kill himself while behind bars last night.

Alemany was in West Roxbury District Court today to be arraigned on charges he kidnapped, robbed and stabbed 24-year-old Lord to death on July 23.

Attorney Jeffrey Denner told the court Alemany attempted suicide while locked up in the Nashua Street Jail, and sustain self-inflicted scratches on his arms and neck. Denner said Alemany has a history of serious mental health problems.

He is being held without bail.

Alemany was in court yesterday for two separate attacks on women around the time of Lord's South Boston slaying. He was held on $3 million cash bail for that charge.
