Babysitter arrested after leaving five kids in locked SUV

A woman was arrested today in connection with the five children locked inside a car this morning in a Port Richmond supermarket parking lot, police said.

A woman was arrested today after leaving five children locked inside a hot car this morning in a Port Richmond supermarket parking lot while she shopped, police said.

According to Public Information Officer Jillian Russell the children — three boys (6-months, 6 and 8), two girls (1, 9) — were left inside the running SUV outside the Shoprite on the 3700 block of Aramingo Avenue around 11 a.m. for an unknown amount of time.

The five children, who were found to be overheated, were taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for evaluation. The 9-year-old girl was taken to Special Victims, Russell said.

Russell said the woman was the babysitter.

Police will only release her name after she is charged.
