Barricaded man throws microwave, liquor bottles at police during five-hour standoff

A man hurled a microwave and liquor bottles out the window of his home on the 100 block of West Clarkson Avenue in Olney Saturday afternoon during a five-hour standoff with police.

Officers responded to the home around 12:40 p.m. for reports of a person with a weapon and a victim stabbed in the residence’s basement. When they arrived, they found a man, 51, who they say has a history of mental illness, throwing items out of his window.

The man refused to leave, saying that he had children inside and threatening to blow the house up. SWAT was able to make its way into the home and arrest him without incident after five hours of negotiations.

No additional people were found inside and no injuries were reported. The man was committed to Germantown Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
