Best spots to watch the NYC marathon

This year might be the last the ING New York City marathon is a one-day bonanza only, so grab a good spot.

The MTA slotted out the best viewing locations in the city, from the first few miles in Brooklyn to mile 21 in the Bronx. Wave 1 starts at 9:40 a.m., according to the race website.

One great place to catch the race is 43rd Street and Fourth Avenue in Sunset Park, where runners are still fresh while hitting mile five.

Or catch them at mile 25 of the 26.2-mile race, at 59th Street and Central Park South.

To prepare for the race, MTA workers sweep up the Verrazano-Narrows bridge, which runners race across after leaving from a plaza in Staten Island.

In the days right before the race, MTA officials will “go over the bridge with a finetooth comb,” according to the MTA, clearing small debris and evening the pavement — trying to get rid of anything that could trip up a runner.

Due to its popularity, officials are considering turning the marathon into a two-day event in the future.
