Public Advocate Bill de Blasio has two more powerful Democrats on his side: the Clintons.

Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, endorsed de Blasio's bid for mayor Wednesday.

Spokesmen for the couple said in a joint statement that de Blasio has been a friend to both of the Clintons for many years.

"They were proud to see him run a thoughtful, creative campaign about the issues, and they are behind him as he moves on to the general election as the Democratic nominee," spokesmen Matt McKenna and Nick Merrill said in a joint statement.

Also this week, de Blasio was endorsed by two of his former rivals, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and former City Comptroller Bill Thompson.
