Mayor-Elect Bill de Blasio and his wife Chirlane McCray flew to a conference and brief vacation in Puerto Rico Thursday riding in coach.
Current-Mayor Michael Bloomberg, on the other hand, travels using a fleet of private jets.
De Blasio will be speaking at the Somos El Futuro Fall Conference, an annual meeting of New York City and state Latino leaders.
"I have participated for many years. I look forward to speaking at the conference, I look forward to meeting with senior Puerto Rican leaders," de Blasio said Wednesday, noting the city's "profound" connection with the territory.
Following the conference, he will have some "down time" with McCray — but he promised that his transition team will be hard at work.
