Bloomberg says Christine Quinn would make a 'very good'mayor

The mayor speaks out about possible successors.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said today that City Council Speaker Christine Quinn would be a "very good" fit to fill his shoes.

Quinn, a contender for the 2013 mayoral race, faces others interested in the seat, like former city comptroller Bill Thompson and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer.

"Chris Quinn is very competent and would be a very good mayor," Bloomberg said at a press conference today.

It is the strongest statement yet from Bloomberg on what may happen after he leaves what he has called "the best job in the world."

In another gift, he said he will make a philanthropic donation for her upcoming wedding – the Speaker marries her longtime partner Saturday.
