Boston Common ranks among nation’s most popular parks (UPDATED)

The Boston Common was ranked among “America’s Most Popular City Parks” in a recent survey by Travel+Leisure and Foursquare.

The Common ranked as the eighth most popular park in the country, according to the rankings released this month.

“Boston is home to seemingly countless plugged-in college students, all eager to check in and show off their every move—and this nearly 400-year-old park is one of their favorite destinations,” the magazine wrote in its description of Boston Common. “Draws at the 50-acre park include Frog Pond, where picnickers spread blankets alongside the water in warmer months.”

But the magazine must have a soft spot for other Boston parks – specifically the Public Garden. The picture that accompanied the online write up describing the Common was actually a picture of the George Washington statue in the Public Garden.

The online-only piece was updated and the picture was corrected shortly after 5:30 p.m.

Parks were ranked from data that was compiled by Foursquare on the number of people who checked-in at a park between August 2011 and August 2012.

The data also found that the top app users range in age from 25 to 34 and were split about even between men and women.

The top six parks were all located in New York City. Central Park ranked No. 1.
