Police and prosecutors said Thursday that they have charged a 28-year-old man with the murder of a young South Boston woman who was kidnapped and found dead in the Stony Brook Reservation.

Suffolk District Attorney Dan Conley and Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said at a news conference that Edwin Alemany will face a murder charge in Lord’s death.

Authorities said various pieces of evidence led to finally charging Alemany with the murder.

“The investigation reached a tipping point within the past 24 hours with witness statements, forensic evidence and surveillance imagery, but we still have a great deal of work to do,” Conley said.

“This is an extremely complex case. It includes offenses in multiple locations over an extended period of time. Police, prosecutors and civilians are still working this case and they’ll continue those efforts until the truth is spoken in a Suffolk County courtroom.”

Lord, 24, was walking from her South Boston apartment July 23 when authorities said she was forced into her car and then taken to ATMs around the city, where she withdrew money. Her body was later found in the Hyde Park recreation area.

Alemany is undergoing a mental evaluation in Bridgewater State Hospital. He is already charged with attacking two other women, one of who was stabbed in the attack.

The kidnapping of a young woman leaving her apartment in the early morning led to widespread concern in the South Boston neighborhood. Free self-defense classes were offered and police and elected officials recently held a community meeting to listen to concerns.
