Boston EMT saves boy from burning building

An off-duty Boston EMT rushed in to a burning Brighton building late last night and saved a 10-year-old boy who was still inside.

Edmund Burke, who has worked for Boston EMS since 1996, spotted the flames coming from 4 Wadsworth Street just after 11 p.m.

The Boston Fire Department said the flames on the second floor extended in to the home’s attic. Only one person was injured.

Inside Burke found the boy who was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.

EMS officials said the boy was in a hyperbaric chamber and was in critical condition.

Firefighters are investigating the cause and called a building inspector to the scene for possible code violations
