The Boston Fire Department says two firefighters were hurt Thursday night while battling flames in East Boston, while other crews handled a fire in the Fenway area.
The brush fire along the banks of the Muddy River was reported just before 7:30 p.m., according to the department’s Twitter feed. The fire began in a park near the intersection of Fenway and Westland Ave.
Crews managed to extinguish the flames within 30 minutes. No one was hurt.
It was the second fire along the Muddy River in less than a week. On Saturday, firefighters rescued a man from the water while putting out a fire near the department’s Dispatch Operations center.
Earlier Thursday, an electrical short was blamed for a two-alarm blaze in East Boston.
The fire began on the top floor of a three-story wooden duplex at 96 Chelsea St. and spread to the building next door.
Two firefighters were taken to Mass. General Hospital, one with a head injury and the other with a shoulder injury. Both were expected to recover.
All but one of the six apartments in the two buildings were vacant. The displaced resident was able to stay with family.
The damage was estimated at $200,000.
