A new Memorial Day tradition begins tonight in Boston.
An outdoor concert called “Remembrance: A Musical Tribute to Our Fallen Heroes” takes place at Christopher Columbus Park tonight. The Metropolitan Wind Symphony and the Boston City Singers will perform during the free sunset concert that starts at 6:30 p.m.
The performance replaces a 66-year-old tradition of having a memorial service at McGillivray Park in the Fens.
“Memorial Day is about honoring those who served and gave their lives for our freedom, and I am proud to introduce this moving musical tribute,” Mayor Thomas Menino said in a statement.
