Boston’s Top 4 people who made headlines in 2010

Where would Boston be without someone to dish about? We’d probably just turn on each other. Here are some of the people who snagged headlines and got people talking throughout the city in 2010.

Where would Boston be without someone to dish about? We’d probably just turn on each other. Here are some of the people who snagged headlines and got people talking throughout the city in 2010:

The truck goes to Washington

Who knew the biggest political story of the year would involve a pickup truck, a barn jacket and Ayla Brown’s father? In the craziest political upset of the year — or perhaps decade — Sen. Scott Brown defeated Attorney General Martha Coakley for Ted Kennedy’s seat in Washington.

Oldest subway gets young conductor

The oldest subway in America got a blast of youth in March when 36-year-old Rich Davey was named the T’s new GM. Davey has held popular Join the GM sessions to hear customer complaints and has also allowed the fate of several pilot programs to be determined by online polls. A man of action, Davey also single-handedly caught a fare evader earlier this month.

Chuck Turner keeps the fight going

At age 70, Chuck Turner became the first person kicked off of the Boston City Council after being convicted of corruption charges in October. The Harvard graduate recently hired a lawyer to explore suing the city to get him reinstated. During his trial, he repeatedly said the FBI was setting him up. He is scheduled to be sentenced in
January.

Harvard faker kept dreaming big

Adam Wheeler certainly dreamed big, and that may have been his downfall.

The 24-year-old from Delaware used phony teacher recommendations and a fake transcript that included perfect SAT scores to transfer into Harvard University.
Wheeler almost made it to graduation, but was caught when he plagiarized material in his application for the prestigious Rhodes and Fulbright scholarships.

Wheeler this month pleaded guilty to 20 criminal charges and received 10 years of probation.
