BostonCanShare Campaign lifts off in City Hall Plaza

To mark the start of the 26th annual Boston CANshare Campaign, the city held a “Man vs. Can” competition at City Hall Plaza, pitting some of the city’s strongest – and most generous – heavy lifters against each other.

In addition to showcasing feats of strength, the launch also featured food trucks, can collections, pumpkin milkshakes from b good, and Ben & Jerry’s Greet yogurt.

The annual food drive sponsored by Mayor Thomas M. Menino, the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Hunger, FedEx, and The Greater Boston Food Bank.

In 2011, Bostonians shared about 44,000 pounds of food with local families, according to city officials.

This year’s CANshare drive will run until November 30.
