Andrew Myers seemed like an upstanding citizen. As a Boy Scout leader and middle school substitute teacher, Myers spent significant time with children, particularly young boys.
But in 2012, his involvement with child pornography and preying on young children came to light. Now, the former lawyer is facing 15 to 21 years in prison for enticing and attempting to entice minors for sex, and possession of child pornography. Hepleaded guilty in court on Wednesday to the charges, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reports.
The case against the Boy Scout leader unfolded in July 2012 when a Colorado mother discovered email and Skype communications between her 12-year-old son and a man eventually identified as Mr. Myers, said the Telegram.
When speaking with the Colorado boy over the internet, Myers talked about returning from a camping trip with some of his scouts.
“I just wish some of them were willing to let me play along,” Mr. Myers said after making sexual comments.
There were also sexual messages Myers sent to three Northbridge and Millbury boys he knew through his work as a substitute teacher.
Myers is a former member of the Northbridge School Committee, and he ran for state representative in the 9th Worcester District in 2004.
