A Brighton woman was held on $250,000 bail and sent for evaluation at Worcester State Hospital today for allegedly setting fire to her apartment building Saturday night.

Lisa Brown, 49, allegedly started the fire while her 21-year-old daughter and the daughter’s boyfriend, also 21, were inside the Jette Court building. There were several other families at home in the complex at the time.

She faces charges of attempted murder and arson, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

Firefighters were called to the scene, but Brown had already left. The building’s sprinkler system was able to extinguish the flames, FOX 25 reports.

The daughter and her boyfriend were both rescued from a third-story window by firefighters and were taken to a hospital for evaluation.

“Anytime you have a fire, but especially when people are asleep, the potential is there for people to get seriously injured or killed,” Steve MacDonald, spokesman for Boston Fire Department, told WHDH.

Fellow residents told WHDH they initially thought the fire was an accident.

“I got the two little ones. I was in front of the door just ready to grab them out,” said Aida Guadalupe.
