Health inspectors have cracked down on more than 350 food vendors in Brooklyn for a number of violations, ranging from serving food with bare hands to using unidentified meat.
Three vendors in the borough have received 13 violations each and face thousands of dollars in fines, theDaily Newsreports.
Matthew Ninos has a stand at 760 Flushing Ave., and owes $6,000 in fines for violations that include food from an unapproved source, failure to clean his cart and storing drinks in a freezer on the floor.
Ninos says the city finds minor issues to take money from vendors.
“The city is just finding different ways to suck out money from people like me,” he told the News.
Bay Ridge vendor Imam Hassanain is also considered one of the dirtiest vendors in Brooklyn with undercooked meat, improper food temperatures and no handwashing stations.
Another vendor, Shawki Eldin, owes more than $7,400 for violations, like failure to wash hands and keeping raw food in the open.
