Prior to the start of trial against alleged mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger, his attorney repeatedly said that Bulger would take the witness stand and testify.
But now it’s not as clear.
Since the start of the trial there has been some doubt among court observers as to whether Bulger will actually take the stand. On Friday, Carney would not confirm for Judge Denise Casper that Bulger would testify.
Carney gave his witness lineup to the court on Friday and it stretched only until the end of the day on Tuesday. Casper asked Carney if the jury would get the case this week.
“I don’t know the answer, your honor,” Carney said.
Casper said she would ask again on Monday and Carney said he would give her the same answer.
Carney said he will let the judge know if Bulger will testify after the defense witnesses are called Tuesday.
