Bulger trial jury selection questions proposed

(File) (File)

Federal prosecutors and lawyers for alleged mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger submitted joint proposed jury selection questions as the trial nears for the 83-year-old former fugitive.

The filing was submitted late Tuesday night after Judge Denise Casper requested them at a hearing last week.

The sides submitted 51 proposed questions that ask potenital jurors basic information such as occupation and whether any hardships may prevent them from serving on the jury.

Other quetions ask jurors if they’ve read any books about organized crime in Boston and if they have a problem with some of the witnesses having been involved in the alleged criminal activity.

Jury selection in the Bulger trial is scheduled to begin at the end of next month.

Below is a sampling of some of the jury selection questions:

*Have you formed an opinion about the guilt or innocence of James “Whitey” Bulger with respect to the charges in this case?

*Several witnesses in this case have participatedin the criminal activity alleged in the indictment. Will the fact that a witness has been involved in the criminal activity alleged in the indictment cause you to automatically disregard the testimony of the witness?

*Several witnesses in this case cooperated with the goverment in exchange for a more lenient sentence. Will the face that a witness cooperated with the government to receive a lesser sentene cause you to automatically disregard the testimony of the witness?

*In this case, you will also hear evidence regarding drug trafficking, including marijuana. Do you have any opinions about drug laws that would make you unable to decide this case on the evidence presented adn the law as state by the court?
