A woman getting off of the bus in Roxbury after having just come from the movies with her son and nephew was hit in the head by a bullet that police said was not meant for her.

Officers in the area of Bowdoin and Norton streets in Roxbury heard multiple gunshots while on patrol just after 8:30 p.m. Saturday. They came upon a scene with people in the street and a woman bleeding from the head.

The woman, who is in her 40s, told police she had just come from the movies with her teenage son and nephew and was getting off of a bus when the shooting took place.

Police said she suffered what appeared to be a graze wound to the right side of her head. The woman was taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment.

A police spokeswoman said there was no description of a suspect, but that the woman appeared to be an innocent bystander.

Authorities are asking for help and anyone with information can call 617-343-4335.
