Bunches of faith that Brady, Pats will reach a deal

It would be catastrophic for the Patriots if Tom Brady decided to leave New England.

But Nick Sharis isn’t worried.

“I definitely think he is going to re-sign,” the Boston resident said outside South Station yesterday. “It’s just a matter of when other players start to hash out their contracts, and it will fall in line. I can’t ever see him leaving the Patriots. I just think it’s a matter of time before he signs, it will probably happen before the season.”

Brady is entering the final year of his contract, but an ESPN report pointed to positive signs in negotiations over an extension. That was music to the ears of fans in a city where sports stars can take on near-mythic status.

“There are some athletes in Boston that really become a part of the city, and become a part of the culture,” Dawneca Simpson of Brockton said, “and Tom Brady is one of those guys.”

She trusts he won’t run out of steam any time soon.

“He is still in his prime, he still has a lot more football in him,” she said.

Patriots training camp starts Thursday at Gillette Stadium.
