Cabbie slasher denied bail

NEW YORK. The man charged with a hate crime slashing of a Muslim taxi driver’s neck yesterday claimed he was acting in self-defense. Michael Enright, charged with the attempted murder of Ahmed Sharif, said the cabbie tried to rob him. Enright was held without bail. He allegedly slashed Shar-if’s neck after asking him whether he was Muslim.

A student at the School of Visual Arts, he spent time embedded with troops in Afghanistan while working on a video project for a nonprofit that promotes interfaith relations.
