Thousands descended on the South Street Seaport on Sunday for a day-long celebration of Deepavali, the Hindu festival of lights.
This is the 27th year The Association of Indians in America has held a Deepavali festival in New York. A stretch of Water Street was blocked off to traffic, and vendors sold vibrant traditional Indian clothes and wares. Several stages featured traditional and modern Indian dancers, as well as talks on Ayurvedic medicine, to celebrate arguably the most important holiday of the year.
