Charlie of the MBTA kicks off the T's annual 'Fill-A-Bus' toy drive

The MBTA's new mascot makes his second public appearance at the opening of the transit agency's annual toy drive at South Station.

The MBTA opened one of its buses' doors today for the transit agency's annual holiday toy drive, "Fill-A-Bus" outside South Station.

The T's new mascot, Charlie, made an appearance at noon to help stock the bus with donated toys. It was the first time Charlie has stepped out in the public eye since his debut in August.

People looking to donate new, unwrapped toys will be able to do so until Friday.

Last year the T collected about 1,000 toys. It is the twelfth year the agency has hosted the toy drive.

Donations will benefit Action for Boston Community Development, Freedom House, The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and The Yawkey Boys & Girls Club of Boston.
