The seats may be cheaper, but the team’s still the same.
Mets fans seemed unimpressed by a 14 percent average slash in prices for the 2011 season announced yesterday. The new price tags on tickets included cheaper tickets for 62 percent of the games and a 10 percent discount for season ticket holders.
But the team’s 79-83 record was too much for some to overlook.
“I turned down free tickets last year, because I didn’t wanna go watch a losing team,” tweeted Anthony Pennisi, a Long Island fan.
Mets tickets should be drastically cheaper than Yankees tickets, said Scott, a fan commenting on the Mets Police blog.
“We don’t come close to the payroll of the Yankees and we don’t have anywhere near as many stars as the Yankees,” he wrote.
Despite brand-new Citi Field, last year’s crowds were 600,000 fans fewer than 2009, Bloomberg reported. Team leadership has also shifted, with the firing of manager Jerry Manuel and Sandy Alderson replacing Omar Minaya as the general manager.
