A Chicopee woman is suing the New England Patriots, the NFL and a security guard after her husband suffered an “agitation and stress” induced heart attack while at Gillette Stadium.
Kimberly Chartier filed the civil suit in Hampden Superior Court in late June on behalf of her son Tedy who was at the 2010 game with her husband, according to The Republican. The wrongful death suit is seeking at least $10 million.
The suit said that Jeffrey Chartier had taken his then 6-year-old son to a game and arrived early. A pair of NFL officials motioned to them and they met them at the railing near the field. The NFL officials asked if Tedy wanted his picture taken on the field and wanted to run along the field. Chartier lifted his son over the railing and took the picture.
At some point a security guard asked Chartier why his son was on the field without credentials. The suit claims the security guard and Chartier became involved in a 15-minute confrontation that left Chartier “angered and extremely agitated,” according to The Republican.
The 40-year-old Chartier went back to his seat, had difficulty breathing and slumped over. He was taken to the field where personnel tried to revive him, but he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Lawyers representing the NFL and other defendants declined to comment to The Republican.
