The Governor’s Council voted unanimously yesterday to confirm the first black chief justice of the Supreme Judicial Court Justice, Roderick Ireland.

The Governor’s Council voted unanimously yesterday to confirm the first black chief justice of the Supreme Judicial Court Justice, Roderick Ireland.

Ireland replaces Chief Justice Margaret Marshall, who retired.

Gov. Deval Patrick intends to nominate a justice this month to fill Ireland’s old seat on the state’s high court.
