City announces pay-for-parking program

Finding change for the meter might soon be a thing of the past.

The Department of Transportation announced today that the city will launch a pilot program to allow drivers to pay for parking using their cell phones.

The program will include 300 parking spaces. Under the pilot, drivers would call into the system to begin a parking
session, which would activate their credit card.

“Piloting pay-by-phone technology can eliminate the mad dash for meter change,” Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan said.
