An 84-year-old patient at Coney Island Hospital died after she was given a transfusion of the wrong blood type, officials said.

The woman died June 9 because the hospital’s blood lab incorrectly identified her blood type, according to the city’s Health and Hospitals Corporation.

Experts say these kinds of mistakes occur in about one in every 14,000 transfusions and can have fatal complications, The Daily News reports.

The state Health Department has ordered the hospital to send blood to another lab for testing.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family,” the HHC said in said in a statement.
