Connect the spots: Take the T mobile challenge

Calling all app developers and transportation enthusiasts: Mayor Thomas Menino and MBTA officials want you to create the ultimate transportation travel guides linking locals with Hubway bikes and food trucks.

If you’re up for the “MBTA & Boston Bikes Developers Challenge,” then start building Web-based applications using information provided by the T online.

The focus of the “app-off” is to highlight the transit connections between Hubway and the MBTA while guiding Bostonians to area food trucks using a mobile app.

There are three challenges software developers can take on. The Applications Challenge highlights the transit connections between Hubway and the T; the Visualization Challenge asks developers to create a visualization of “A Day in the Life of the MBTA and Hubway”; and The Bikes, Lunch & T Challenge is designed to get residents and riders to food vending trucks.

Those who enter must build a website, mobile app, or software application using real-time data.

Submissions are due next month.

Winners will be announced before the Hubway re-opens in the spring and will receive various prizes.
