Cops: Driver sprays cologne in mouth to avoid DUI

A North Attleboro man was hauled to jail with a bad taste in his mouth after being involved in a car crash in Roxbury.

Hoi Ngo, 40, allegedly rear-ended a Boston Water and Sewer Commission dump truck just after 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The driver of the truck told police that when he went to exchange information with Ngo, he found that Ngo had fallen asleep.

The driver also told police that Ngo allegedly tried to drive away, but was unable to because of the damage to his car. That’s when the truck driver witnessed something bizarre.

“The witness further states that he observed the operator spraying cologne into his mouth, presumably, to mask the odor of alcohol on his breath,” according to police.

Officers said they also observed Ngo spraying cologne on his body when they arrived.

The officers said that despite the fresh scent, Ngo had bloodshot eyes and poor balance.

He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
