A police officer fatally shot a pit bull attacking its owner Monday evening, a law enforcement source reported.

Cops were called to a building on Anderson Avenue in the Bronx about 6 p.m., where they found the pit bull in the hallway on the sixth floor, the source said.

The source said an officer shot the pit bull once, killing it.

The dog's 42-year-old owner and the owner's 41-year-old sister were taken to Lincoln Hospital with cuts and gashes on their arms and feet, the source said. Both are expected to survive.

The officers at the scene were reportedly taken to Westchester Square Hospital to be treated for tinnitus, a ringing in the ears due to proximity to the gun shot.
