A Dorchester man is facing charges after he allegedly punched a Starbucks barista in the face because his order was incorrect.

The 41-year-old man was summonsed to appear in South Boston District Court at a later date for a charge of assault and battery, according to Boston police.

Police said officers were called to the South Boston Starbucks on West Broadway just before 9 a.m. Monday. When they arrived they found the barista applying ice to his injury. He told officers that the suspect approached him and said “What the [expletive] did you give me last time? That wasn’t tea,” police said.

That’s when the suspect punched the barista in the face and fled.

Witnesses told officers that the suspect fled on an MBTA bus. Police caught up to the bus and found the man who said he exchanged words with the barista after complaining about the service during a prior visit.
