Cops: Mom stabbed kids, then herself

A Point Breeze woman was arrested last night for allegedly stabbing her two children to death, police said.

The incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. in an apartment on the 1700 block of South 18th Street. The woman’s 12-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son both suffered multiple stab wounds to the torso, cops say. The mother was arrested at the scene. Officers took her to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for treatment of self-inflicted wounds.

There is no word on a motive at this time and no identities, other than police reports that they were Asian, were released last night. Police are still investigating the crime.

The disturbing matriarchal murders came hours after Mayor Michael Nutter and Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey announced their five-year plan for increasing the uniformed police presence on city streets. They also touted lower violent crime in recent years.

But Ramsey was also cautious.

“This is by no means a victory speech,” Ramsey said. “It’s a journey that never ends. There’s no finish line because one murder is unacceptable, let alone two or three hundred.”
